Jumeirah Port Soller Hotel and Spa  Port de Sóller, Mallorca, Spain

This LEED Gold certified project features a luxury hotel located on top of the cliff, with stunning views of the Mediterranean Sea, Tramuntana Mountains and the scenic village of Porto de Sóller in Mallorca. The design includes a sequence of outdoor terraces and gardens, offering visitor a condensed experience of Mediterranean landscapes' variety in an array of spaces with different grade of privacy.

The entrance area features a 20m long green wall, screening the space from the neighboring buildings and framing the vistas towards the surrounding landscape. At the lower pool terrace, custom planters with native grasses and primrose trees break down the scale of the space, creating more intimate areas for sunbathing and relaxing. The route towards the Spa and the upper pool terrace leads through the lush Inner Garden, composed by characteristic Majorcan natural stone terraces with palms, dragon trees, scented species and succulents. A series of turns and pauses draw attention to the experience of passage itself rather than to the destination. Natural stone paving and a system of timber screens and balustrades stitch together the variety of spaces, with paving patterns changing along with their scale.

To achieve LEED Gold rating, the design incorporates water-saving native plants and an extensive surface of 2500 m2 of green roofs, reducing storm water runoff from the site and improving the climatic conditions of the buildings. In collaboration with Botanic Garden Soller we developed an indigenous palette of salt-tolerant and water-saving species.
